I do not know enough about the Green Arowana to write about them extensively and I’m not as keen in them as the Golds and Reds. They are said to be found in many South East Asian countries, such as Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, but I’ve not been to check out the Greens there.

However, while I was “hunting” for Goldens in the East Coast of Western Peninsular Malaysia, in the State of Kelantan, in the 80s, I chance on this very unique type of Green that has glittery design on the Operculum (Gill Plate Cover), and scales right up to the 5th Level. It also has some glitters on the finnages.
The Nami Green
I learnt of the Nami Green from Max Loo’s great article at www.arowanaclub.com

From my observation, the pictures of the smaller Green Aros in the article looks like those I saw in Kelantan. However, the picture of the Green that weighs about 7kg from the Muda Dam Lake does not seem to have the designs on its operculum.

I’ve also seen some Super Reds with the same designs on the Operculum but they are not as evenly spread out throughout the whole operculum and they do not have patterns on the scales like the Green. In addition, their scales are covered with red dots on the rim, instead of a fully coloured red rim. I saw one of these Super Reds in Panda Aquatic Centre’s showroom recently.
It is also not unusual to find this same design on the operculum in some crossbreeds, especially the 1.5 reds.
